Beacons Glow Collectibles Now Boyds Bears Silver Paw Dealer
Have you ever wondered if your favorite Boyds Bears Retailer is an authorized Paw Dealer? And if so, what exactly is an authorized Paw Retailer?
Pflugerville, TX, May 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Beacon's Glow Collectibles, an online gift and collectibles retail store specializing in dolls & teddy bears (http://www.beaconsglow.com/), is pleased to announce that they have recently been upgraded from a Boyds Bears Bronze Paw Dealer to a higher-level Silver Paw Dealer. A more detailed description of what this means to their customers follows after a brief history of Boyds.
The Boyds Collection, Ltd. (known to most as Boyds Bears) was founded back in 1979 by the flamboyant G.M. Lowenthal. Initially, G.M. moved to Boyds, Maryland to open an antique shop which quickly transcended into the sale of antique reproductions, namely duck decoys hand-painted by G.M. He and his wife, Tina, added two new lines in 1984 when G.M. designed his first teddy bear named Matthew (after his own newborn son), and miniature resin houses.
In 1987, their business was flourishing and they relocated to the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania area, which enabled them to further expand their offerings. In the mid-90’s several new lines were added: The Bearstone Collection in 1993; the Folkstone Collection in 1994; and the very popular Uncle Beans Treasure Boxes in 1996.
Back in 2006, Boyds Bears of the Month were added and quickly became a hit with bear collectors. Early this year Boyds joined with Enesco, a global leader in the giftware industry, to assist with worldwide distribution and support. This has proven to be a win-win situation for both parties involved.
Still wondering exactly what an authorized Paw Dealer is? Boyds Bears bases their internal reward program collectively based upon their US retailers’ annual invoiced dollars. Currently there are 5 levels of Paw dealers starting with Bronze and ending at Diamond level. So, the levels are: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond.
Benefits increase for the retailer as each higher level Paw status is achieved. These benefits can include anything from obtaining Paw Dealer Exclusive pieces to ordering multiple 1st Edition Packs available only to Paw Dealers.
For those of you that do not know what a 1E edition is, Boyds produces their Bearstone Collection, Water Balls, and Uncle Beans Treasure Boxes in 3,600 piece editions for 1E pieces. Edition and the sequence in which the piece is produced within the edition are hand-written on the bottom of each piece (e.g., 1E,/219 signifies 1st production run of the edition, piece #219 out of 3,600 pieces).
When production reaches 3,600 pieces, 2nd editions are then created and the process repeats itself (e.g., 2E/325 signifies 2nd production run of the edition, piece #325 out of 3,600 pieces.)
A portion of the 3,600 1E edition pieces are pre-packed by the Boyds at Enesco factory and offered to Boyds Paw dealers in pack form. Beacon's Glow Collectibles was a Bronze Paw Dealer but now is a Silver Paw Dealer. This means that they will have more 1E pieces in stock to offer their customers.
Additionally, another way to tell instantly whether a Boyds resin piece is a 1E, 2E or open edition is the check the color of the dot on the bottom of the box. A red dot signifies a 1E piece while a blue dot is a 2E piece. No dot at all means that the collectible piece is from an open edition – all 1E and 2E pieces have been distributed to retailers.
It is a well-known fact that collectors value the 1E edition pieces as the perceived value is higher than that of other editions.
