This process is experimental, freeing, and can be used successfully with a wide range of imagery and styles. Encaustic mixed Media is fun and experimental.

Mono printing and fusing techniques are combined with contemporary approaches, such as collage, image transfer, and some traditional painting methods. Students will learn about the preparation of supports and grounds, and about the safe and archival uses of this medium.

Participants will be able to experiment with the encaustic process to create a variety of work on a variety of media. This is a great class for the experienced artist searching for a new way to express their vision and for the less experienced artist to have immediate success.

Encaustic Monotype Process
The encaustic monotype combines the ancient painting medium of encaustic with the popular monotype process. Encaustic sticks (beeswax and pigment in solid form) are used to draw on a heated metal plate. The wax melts instantly and it is manipulated with brushes and other tools. Paper is laid on the plate, the back of the paper is rubbed with a barren, and the image is transferred to the paper. Viscosity of the encaustic media is controlled by temperature.
