Rapper Queen Pen Pairs Up with Local Non-Profit to Bring Kids and Incarcerated Parents Together

Brooklyn, NY, May 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- An estimated 85,000 children in New York have an incarcerated parent. The challenges facing children impacted by parental incarceration are significant, wide-ranging and potentially devastating. In addition to the trauma of losing a parent, these children are forced to deal with a range of social and economic problems relating specifically to their circumstances. With the support of Rapper Queen Pen, Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC) is set to bring children and their incarcerated parents together this Father’s Day through free sponsored trips to surrounding prisons, while also addressing the unique vulnerabilities of these children.

Beginning earlier this year, Queen Pen has become a more outspoken advocate for these children by participating in CPNYC fundraisers and sponsorship meetings and raising funds and awareness for these free Father’s Day field trips. The purpose of such trips is to allow children to spend these important holidays with their fathers and to help continue nurturing these important relationships. To ensure the experience is productive and positive, activities are infused with counseling and take place within a safe and trusted environment with children who share also similar experiences. Beyond transportation, the program provides food & games for the trip as well gifts for the children to give their fathers.

Sharon Content, CPNYC Founder and President, believes that “with the support and advocacy of individuals like Queen Pen, we will be able facilitate these trips for children, many of whom haven’t seen their fathers since their incarceration. These trips foster a critical relationship that is often a missing component in helping these silent victims to develop tools for discovering new pathways, recognizing possibilities and realizing their full potential.”.
