Accent Construction Receives Trendsetter Award
Firm Recognized for Commitment to Sustainable Building Practices
Chapel Hill, NC, May 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Accent Construction, a Triangle-based full service commercial general contractor, has announced that they have won the 2009 Trendsetter Award from Triangle Commercial Real Estate Women (TCREW). The award was announced at TCREW’s 11th Annual Champion Awards ceremony held on April 23rd at the Raleigh Convention Center that was attended by over 400 professionals from the commercial real estate sector.
The Trendsetter Award is given to an individual or company setting the pace on innovative practices and standards within the commercial real estate industry. Accent Construction was singled out for recognition as a result of their reuse and recycle efforts in all commercial construction projects. In 1999, Accent became the first construction company in the state to join the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise program and in 2008 they were recognized as the EPA WasteWise Small Business Partner of the Year. To date, their efforts have kept nearly 500 tons of construction waste and debris from entering landfills by systematically separating waste from recyclable materials at job sites.
TCREW’s Champion Awards is an annual program that recognizes commercial real estate leaders, deals and projects covering a cross-section of the Triangle commercial real estate industry. Winners were chosen by a panel including leaders from local chambers of commerce, economic development councils and businesses.
“When we began instituting reuse and recycle practices into our business, we were not aiming to be trendsetters,” said Lori Eichel, President of Accent Construction. “Our goal was to simply do our small part to leave the Earth healthy for our children and generations to come. We are thrilled to have been recognized as one of the first companies in the area to implement environmentally-friendly construction practices.”
“At the beginning, we were thought of as those tree-huggers from Chapel Hill,” said Vice President of Operations Jim Eichel. “It is gratifying that in the last few years more construction companies are joining in the movement to achieve sustainable building practices.”
