Michigan Civil Air Patrol Squadron Conducts Leadership School

Grand Rapids, MI, May 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Local men complete Civil Air Patrol’s Squadron Leadership School.

Four Grand Rapids area men were among 16 Civil Air Patrol members who recently completed a two day Squadron Leadership School in Muskegon. 1st Lt David Hast of Alto, 2d Lt Kevin Jarchow of Hudsonville, Senior Member Greg Forbes of Greenville and Senior Member Bill Reed also of Alto, completed the course of study. In addition, Lt Col Steve Hickel of Caledonia, Capt Dan Evans of Hastings and Major Andy De Kraker of Hudsonville presented portions of the course.

The course centered on the various missions of Civil Air Patrol Squadrons. The primary missions of the organization; Cadet Programs, Aerospace Education, and Emergency Services were discussed at length. Students also spent a considerable amount of the session participating in lively discussions regarding effective leadership.

Participants in the course discussed their specific squadron job responsibilities. Members of the squadron have the opportunity to train and become proficient in various specialties, including; Command, Administrative, Public Affairs, Operations, Communications and Search and Recue.

The Grand Rapids Senior Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol meets and trains weekly at 7pm at the Plainfield Fire Department facility on Plainfield Ave in Grand Rapids.

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with 56,000 members nationwide. CAP performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 91 lives in fiscal year 2008.
