Ambitious Project Could Help End 100 Years of Hollywood Racism for Native Americans

Ticci Man is changing the way we think about Native people, helping to bring an end to negative stereotypes and racism through the positive and healing process of mutual cooperation and community spirit---the world's greatest Hollywood celebrities and talent all pitching in to help.

San Diego, CA, May 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- An innovative project combining commercial entertainment and nonprofit pursuits is seeking to help end what producers claim is endemic racism and prejudice against Native Americans in today’s Hollywood. Known as the Ticci Man Project (TMP), the project plans to bring entertainment fans the world’s first Native American Superhero portrayed by a Native American.

“In over a hundred years of Hollywood’s existence, there has never been one major film or television series featuring a modern Native American hero in a leading role portrayed by a Native American,” said creator-producer Zelan Bonn. “Most of us had movie or television heroes we identified with growing up, whether we’re Black, Asian, White or Hispanic so imagine being a Native American or Indian anywhere in the world and never having had your big screen hero character to look up to and identify with—Hollywood having abandoned you all your life,” said Bonn. “We’re going to try and change that and redeem the industry we all love at the same time.”

TMP inadvertently makes history by launching a multi-component nonprofit tied directly to both a major motion picture and 8 episode broadcast pilot series. The effort seeks to create synergies that benefit all aspects of the project while giving Native Americans greater voice and access to mainstream film and media. Producers suggest this never-done-before model could become the wave of the future as Hollywood gravitates toward larger nonprofit programs that both entertain and yet offer humanitarian assistance.

“For the first time in history, Native Americans are going to exploit Hollywood instead of the other way around and generous and caring Hollywood celebrities, leaders, and rank and file are helping them toward paying off a long overdue industry debt—is that cool or what,” said Bonn.

The Ticci Man Project is currently soliciting everyone in the industry to get involved with the project, as well as donate.
