How 2 Save Fuel hasn’t yet found a way for cars to run entirely on hydrogen produced from water, but what they are doing is revolutionary, a step in the right direction and an answer affordably available today!
For one thing, gas mileage increases when a hydrogen hybrid system is installed. The gains vary widely, but an average of 25 to 35% is normal. Additionally, consumers notice an increase in power and torque. A dynamometer test run recently on a 1989 Ford F250 Truck increased the horsepower from 181.75 to 188.75 and the torque from 266.20 ft pounds to 293.53. That equates to 7 more horsepower and 27.33 more foot pounds of torque.
But perhaps the greatest gain, especially for older engines, is a dramatic decrease in smog emissions.
The passage of California Assembly Bill 32 means that California’s greenhouse gas levels must be below 1990 levels by 2020, a 30% reduction. Two dramatic offenders, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide are commonly found in vehicle exhaust. Hydrogen hybrid systems, as they enable a higher level of combustion and result in less waste, decrease these emissions. A smog test run on the same Ford F25 lowered the CO2 emissions from 12.2 PPM (parts per million) to zero and the NOx emissions from 338 PPM to 105 PPM, a 69% reduction. These results can be achieved immediately without the need to build an infrastructure.
That is over a one third decrease in smog emissions, and this vehicle’s “before” results were still considered passable.
