Mountain View Optometry Chosen as Externship Site for Optometry Students

Calgary, Canada, May 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Mountain View Optometry has been chosen as an externship site for fourth-year optometry students from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry.

As part of their qualification process, optometry students are required to spend the bulk of their final year of study at exemplary optometric facilities in Canada. Calgary optometrists and staff at Mountain View Optometry welcomed their first intern, Keith Jefferies, who interned under practice owners Dr. Tom Wilk and Dr. Michele Naruszewicz from February through April 2009.

Fourth year optometry students perform eye examinations, fit contact lenses and other specialized testing under supervision of an optometrist. Doctors review all results, discuss treatment plans and answer questions. Other areas of education include practice management, eyeglass dispensing and computerized instrument operation.

Dr. Tom Wilk commented about the externship process at Mountain View Optometry: “While we have chosen to make this commitment to the optometry students, it’s our patients who receive the greatest benefit. Our students are taught to remain completely focused on their patient in all aspects of practice. Doctors and interns thoroughly discuss every detail of the patient’s test results, symptoms, and ocular health to provide optimal eye care.”
