Best Present for Mom on Mother’s Day? Turning Your Computer Off, Expert Says

The best Mother’s Day present that a Mom could get from her loved ones is more time with them face-to-face, said family expert Neal Kimball of Orlando. Kimball is encouraging families to leave their computers turned off on Sunday May 10 and urging them instead to spend time together as a family in honor of Mother’s Day.

Orlando, FL, May 08, 2009 --(PR.com)-- “FAMILYing” Goal for May 10: More Face Time, Less Screen Time.

“Time together is the most precious thing a family has,” according to Kimball, who advocates that families should share at least one evening meal together every week.

“Social networking is now so compelling for people of all ages that it is harder than ever for family members to find the time they need to spend with each other,” Kimball said. “Blogging Moms tell me, it takes more of an effort than ever before.”

Kimball and his wife Jill just launched a website at www.FAMILYing.com that provides resources for families that strive to spend more time together, including tools and advice the Kimballs have developed as parents of four children aged 15 to 21. The site features user-generated content in providing examples and areas of common interest among family members of different generations and outlooks.

Visitors to the site can download and print a special Mother’s Day certificate and card, plus Family Table Time placemats reminding families that weekly family meetings, laughter and sharing create stronger families, Kimball said.

“The prevalence of social networks is a very positive development that has enhanced interpersonal communications in powerful new ways,” Kimball said. “At the same time, nothing can replace the benefits that a family gets through spending time together around the family table, so we encourage families to work together to try to achieve that balance.
