The Truth Gaining Local Popularity
I'm a girl, I'm smart and I know everything
Manasquan, NJ, May 08, 2009 --(PR.com)-- New Jersey author and positive psychologist Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein is a hit with a group of tween-aged girls in Manasquan, NJ regarding her book The Truth (I’m a girl, I’m smart and I know everything).
Manasquan Elementary School hosted Dr. Barbara last week, when she met with 5th and 6th grade girls and their guidance counselor. “It is not only about the book but also a journey for the girls,” Dr. Barbara said. They discussed which topics the girls found most important in the book. Crushes, bullies and parents who don’t listen or teachers who ignore kids, were just a few of the topics discussed. The girls were eager to chat about what they would like to see in the second book of The Truth Series For Girls. Dr. Holstein furiously took notes and was very impressed by their ideas. She is sure to put into the girl’s adventures in the second book many of the ideas expressed. As a psychologist she is determined to handle via fiction as many recurring issues that all girls face. “It is a great way to help girls grow emotionally, without being heavy handed,” Dr. Holstein comments.
Millie Sollecito, Ed.D. student assistant counselor at Manasquan Elementary School, said Dr. Barbara presenting The Truth was a great experience for the girls. She even sees several future writers among them.
“The highlight of our book club meeting was a visit by the author of our book selection, The Truth, by Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein. The girls were able to share and discuss areas of the book that inspired them most. They told her how and why certain parts of the book impacted them. The author invited the girls to ask her questions about her writing experience and whether or not the book was autobiographical. She then asked the girls for suggestions for her next book. They recommend many issues that they felt needed to be addressed for their age group,” Sollecito said.
