The Bresee Foundation Presents the 4th Annual Los Angeles Youth Film Festival on Social Justice

The Bresee Foundation presents the 4th Annual Los Angeles Youth Film Festival on Social Justice, featuring Elise Buick, President of United Way of Greater Los Angeles, as the keynote speaker.

Los Angeles, CA, May 09, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Bresee Foundation Community Center is pleased to announce the 4th Annual Los Angeles Youth Film Festival on Social Justice, a free film screening event sponsored by HBO and ARES Management, featuring films created by Los Angeles Youth. The event will be held on May 21st, from 7-9pm at the Bresee Community Center, located at 184 S. Bimini Place in Los Angeles, CA.

In keeping with their long-held commitment to social justice and community, each spring, Bresee invites high-school students all across Los Angeles to participate in the festival by producing a short film that relates to the year's theme. The aim is that participants will be inspired to think critically about issues impacting their community and create short films and multimedia that will lead influential adults to act on their messages and make a difference in their community.

Each year, films are judged by a panel of filmmakers, academics, community leaders, and politicians. Past judges have included Eric Garcetti, President of the Los Angeles City Council; David Dobkin, Director of the film Wedding Crashers; Robert Mandel, Dean at the American Film Institute; Breck Eisner, Director of the film Sahara, amongst others.

This year, leading the judge panel and serving as the keynote speaker for the awards ceremony is Elise Buick, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Los Angeles--long time supporter of the Bresee Foundation.

In light of the country's current economic situation, the theme chosen for this year is, "Hard Times for the American Dream--Personal Stories of Struggle". Participants have submitted their films, for an approximate total of 35 entries.

Last year, approximately 300 viewers attended the festival, and this year more are expected. The event will begin at 7:00p.m. with food and drinks, and all films will be screened throughout the evening. The event will end in an awards ceremony, where camcorders will be given to all winners.
