Rev. Shaman John-Luke Edwards Talks to Christina Pratt on Why Shamanism Now? Radio Show on May 13
In an episode titled “Shamans Are Sent as an Answer to Prayer”, teacher, author, and founder of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing Christina Pratt talks to Reverend Shaman John-Luke Edwards, MA, PhD. on her show "Why Shamanism Now? A Practical Path to Authenticity."
Portland, OR, May 10, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Streaming live on the Voice America Network (www.voiceamerica.com) on Wednesday, May 13 at 2 p.m. Pacific time/5 p.m. Eastern time, on the show "Why Shamanism Now?", Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing founder Christina Pratt and Reverend Shaman John-Luke Edwards – an ordained shaman of The Wolven Path -- explore the lifeway of a shaman, and what that can still mean today in this world of advertising, misinformation, and workshops on every corner.
The title of this episode - “Shamans are Sent as an Answer to Prayer” reflects the teachings of Edwards when he says: “The shaman isn’t made. The shaman is sent as an answer to a prayer.” Edwards talks about how that prayer may speak the needs of a community, a place, a time, or perhaps even a person, and how the loss of ancestral wisdom as the shaman attempts to adapt to contemporary life may mean that he or she cannot be the answer they have come to be.
Pratt and Edwards will also discuss The Wolven Path, a rebirth of an ancient Celtic/Druidic form of shamanism. Shamanic Clergy of The Wolven Path illuminate the path for others by setting their own hearts and souls aflame; they share, teach, and proclaim the Shamanic way of living. Pratt and Edwards talk about the uniqueness of this path, the power of ritual to transform, and the dangers of social niceties along the path of the contemporary shaman.
Christina Pratt is an authentic, non-traditional contemporary shaman. In practice since 1990, she specializes in mending the soul and transforming the parts of life that feel impossible. A teacher of exceptional clarity, humor, and inspiration, Pratt brings the power of shamanism into the practical grasp of anyone willing to take responsibility for improving the quality of their life. Her well-received book, An Encyclopedia of Shamanism (Rosen), is an 800 page, two-volume set with over 750 in-depth entries that clearly discuss the basic concepts of shamanism, methods, and traditions of over 50 different shamanic peoples. Pratt is the founder of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing in Portland, OR, and New York, NY, creator of the original Foundations of Shamanism and Shamanic Healing course at the University of Minnesota, and a frequent and honored speaker for the American Holistic Medical Association.
Reverend Shaman John-Luke Edwards, MA, PhD., is an ordained shaman of The Wolven Path, which is a rebirth of an ancient Celtic/Druidic form of shamanism. Reverend Shaman is a title of self reverence, related to the sacrifice of continuous learning and the selfless journey of being in shamanic service to the Sacred Earth and Her Children, as well as of a focused visible reverence for the Sacred Journey of all our relations no matter how they or their journeys manifest. Shamanic Clergy illuminate the path for others by setting their own hearts and souls aflame; they are light bearers and song carriers. Shamanic Clergy share, teach and proclaim the Shamanic Way of living; are principal agents of the aims and mission of The Society and its ministerial work; and officiate at public ceremony.
