Armacost Antiques Shows Cancels Aspen Art & Antiques Show

Antiques show promoter today announced cancellation of new show scheduled for July 1-6.

Washington, DC, May 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Washington, DC-based promoter Armacost Antiques Shows today announced the cancellation of its Aspen Art & Antiques Show, scheduled for July 1-6, 2009.

“With fewer than 20 dealers committed as of May 1 and only 60 days remaining before the planned opening of the event, the decision to cancel the show seems the most realistic one,” says Bob James, president.

A number of premier art, antiques and jewelry dealers had agreed to exhibit, including Adelson Galleries, Camilla Dietz Bergeron, The Englishman Antiques, MS Rau, Macklowe Gallery and The Silver Fund. However, the total number of dealers committed to the show as of May 1 fell short by half the number needed.

“We reached out to more than 370 dealers in the US and Europe and even reduced booth prices 27 percent in February, in order to encourage participation,“ notes James. “The response to the new show’s dates and location were fairly positive, but we nonetheless failed to recruit the number of quality dealers we needed to deliver the public a top-flight event. The economic slump doesn’t favor a show launch, even when the market is as promising a market as Aspen.”
