Ft. Lauderdale Woman Named One of The Top Women in American Boating by BoatU.S. Magazine
Fort Lauderdale, FL, May 13, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Betty Bauman, Founder and CEO of “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!®” (LLGF), was recently named one of The Top Women in American Boating by BoatU.S. Magazine. She was prominently featured in the May 2009 issue, honoring eleven of the most impressive and inspiring women for setting the trend for female boaters.
"This energetic entrepreneur earned her place in the U.S. sportfishing pantheon not so much by catching fish as by hooking other women on the sport," noted BoatU.S. Magazine Managing Editor Elaine Dickinson. Thanks to Bauman and her team of sportfishing and marine industry professionals, more than 5,000 women have graduated into fishing and boating since 1997.
Both Bauman and her seminar series — often dubbed “The No-Yelling School of Fishing” — are renowned nationally. Her accolades encompass the sportfishing, boating and marine industries. Bauman’s other awards include “Woman of the Year” in the nation’s sportfishing industry by the American Sport Fishing Association. This award was presented to her in Washington, DC, at a reception held for industry leaders and Congressional representatives. Recognizing her foresight in addressing the women's market for the marine industry, she was also named among the Top 21 Most Influential Marine Industry Leaders in the 21st Century by Boating Industry Magazine. As a result of her “Ladies Let’s Go Fishing!” Adventure Trips, The Cove Lodge in Elfin Cove, Alaska named her "Sportsperson of the Year."
The program which brought Bauman to national attention is “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!,” a series of fishing seminars held in conjunction with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Bauman established a partnership with the State Department in 1997 when she offered the state a solution to the lack of opportunity for women to learn fishing and conservation skills. Support was provided by the FWC through the Sportfish Restoration Program. Corporate sponsors also realized the value of this marketing opportunity as well as the chance to promote conservation ethics.
About the “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!” No-Yelling School of Fishing Seminars for Women
LLGF conducts four weekend seminars each year and brings a team of sportfishing and marine industry professionals who teach women fishing and conservation techniques at beginner and advanced levels. Open to the public, the seminars offer a range of experiences presented in a non-intimidating environment including classes on inshore, offshore, bottom and fly fishing. Some freshwater seminars are also offered. There's a wide variety of exercises, with a hands-on approach to everything from knot tying, bait rigging, spin and net casting to filleting, backing a truck and trailer, boat handling and gaffing (with grapefruits!). In one highly acclaimed exercise, participants go poolside and reel in one of the instructors using a fighting belt! Quality fishing, marine and clothing products are also showcased. LLGF has planned adventure fishing trips to Costa Rica and Alaska, and a fly fishing seminar is held in Denver, CO every other year. LLGF also promotes local chapters that plan monthly meetings and networking.
Catch the next “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!” seminars June 26-28 at Pirates Cove Resort & Marina in Stuart, FL, and November 13-15 in Islamorada, FL.
