Burbank, CA, May 13, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The global Web community has voted Beaker’s performance of "Ode To Joy" as Best Music Video of the Year in the Webby People’s Voice Awards. The musical performance – a solo tour de force by Muppet Labs most famous, most combustible and only assistant - was part of a viral video campaign that was produced by The Muppets Studio and Soapbox Films and was released surreptitiously on the web by the Muppet characters themselves.

Beaker’s take on Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is the breakout favorite of the campaign. “Ode To Joy” raced to more than 2 million views in its first two weeks of release and currently boasts over 5 million views. The five-star-rated clip ranks as YouTube’s #33 Top Favorite Entertainment video of all time.

“Ode to Joy” and other videos from the campaign have been featured in such influential new media outlets as The Huffington Post, Gawker, /Film, Videogum and Wonkette, as well as traditional media heavyweights like Entertainment Weekly and The New York Times.

Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet. This year, over 500,000 votes were cast by people around the world for their favorite sites, videos, and ads in The Webby People’s Voice Awards.

Ode to Joy will be honored at a star-studded ceremony hosted by Saturday Night Live’s Seth Meyers on June 8th in New York City. On June 9th, fans will be able to watch the ceremony at the official Webby Awards YouTube Channel.

"The Webby Awards honors the very best of the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. "Ode to Joy’s win is a testament to the skill, ingenuity, and vision of its creators."

”It was an honor to work with such an amazing group of talented people as the Muppet performers and The Muppets Studio,” says Soapbox Films president Christopher Alender, “it has been so exciting to see the web community and many new Beaker fans embrace him in such a big way.”
