San Francisco, CA, May 14, 2009 --(PR.com)-- CREDO Mobile, as America’s greenest mobile phone company, is collaborating with Carbonfund.org to offset the estimated lifetime electrical usage and shipping of all new and refurbished cell phones sold in 2009.
CREDO is also working with Carbonfund.org to offset the carbon footprint of its San Francisco headquarters.
“We're the only phone company that is advocating to lower global warming emissions in our country by 80% by 2050,” said CREDO Mobile Chief Executive Officer Laura Scher. “And we’re especially proud to be working with an organization that identifies and invests in projects whose impacts will be seen not only in our lifetimes but in generations to come.”
CREDO has a long history of environmental advocacy and activism. It is the only U.S. phone company to donate over $60 million to environmental and progressive nonprofit groups like Greenpeace, Planned Parenthood and Ocean Conservancy. CREDO’s customers have pushed Congress to pass the first increase in fuel-economy standards in two decades, put a halt to over 50 coal-fired power plants and urged Congress to renew tax breaks for clean energy. More recently, CREDO participated in Power Shift ’09, which brought 12,000 young people to Washington, D.C. to encourage government leaders to support clean energy policies. CREDO was also named the Environmental Business of the Year in 2009 by the Planning and Conservation League, a respected environmental nonprofit.
“We are proud to continue our partnership with CREDO Mobile, an industry leader with a steadfast commitment to the environment and social justice issues,” said Eric Carlson, president of Carbonfund.org. “As global warming affects all of us, CREDO Mobile provides a means for cell phone users to reduce their carbon footprint and support critical third-party verified projects that are having an impact on global warming today.”
To offset through Carbonfund.org the lifetime usage (estimated at three years) and shipping of all new and refurbished handsets sold in 2009, CREDO Mobile is supporting the Truck Stop Electrification and Iowa Lakes Wind Energy & Turbine projects. Truck Stop Electrification reduces tailpipe emissions from freight trucks when long-haul truck drivers idle their trucks to heat or cool their cab and to power on-board appliances. The project enables drivers to shut off their engines and plug in, instead of idling. This saves up to a gallon of diesel per hour. The Iowa Lakes Wind Energy & Turbine project provides student training in wind energy and turbine technology, in addition to generating power.
