Mountain View Optometry Acquires optomap® Retinal Exam Tool for Detection of Eye Diseases
Calgary, Canada, May 13, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Calgary eye doctors at Mountain View Optometry have acquired the latest high technology in primary eye care – the optomap® Retinal Exam. This scanning laser ophthalmoscope is a wellness screening tool that allows for detailed examination of the retina. The early detection of problems in the retina is crucial to maintaining good vision and overall health. Most people do not realize that in many cases of eye disease, in early stages, there are no signs or symptoms.
The optomap® Retinal Exam is a simple procedure from the patient’s point of view. In less than a second without the need for pupil dilation in most cases, this instrument generates a 200 degree high resolution, digital color image. The image becomes part of the patient’s permanent computerized record and is used as a reference to track any changes in the eye over time. Dr. Tom Wilk of Mountain View Optometry states “a typical eye exam only provides about a 15 degree view of the retina unless pupil dilation is used, which is inconvenient for the patient due to the blurriness which can last several hours. The optomap® Retinal Exam gives us a view of the inside of the eye that was never possible, and has allowed us to eliminate pupil dilation from the majority of our comprehensive eye exams.” With this new equipment Mountain View Optometry’s Calgary optometry doctors have been able to pick up problems such as holes in the retina, retinal detachments and bleeding from diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
Calgary Optometrists at Mountain View Optometry are dedicated to providing the best possible eye care with a goal towards preserving perfect vision for life. The optomap® Retinal Exam is at both their office locations in southern Alberta. They can be reached at 403-286-0888 (Calgary) or 403-851-2020 (Cochrane) or online at www.eyeglasses-calgary-optometrists.com.
