Centuries-Old Perfumes Revived by Prince Nicolò Boncompagni Ludovisi to Celebrate His Engagement
As a gift, to celebrate his engagement to Rita, the love of his life, His Serene Highness, Prince Nicolò Boncompagni Ludovisi has commissioned an exquisite perfume, first crafted four hundred years ago by his ancestor, the then Prince of Piombino, for his Princess.
Rome, Italy, May 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Prince Nicolò, a Prince of the Holy Roman Empire, whose many titles include Prince of Piombino and Prince of Venosa, is an aristocrat with a noble heritage dating back more than a thousand years. The perfumes’ secrets, locked in the family archives since the 1600’s, were rediscovered by Italy's master profumiere, Lorenzo Dante Ferro. He is one of the very few master perfumers in the world today, and a consultant to the world’s most famous fragrance brands. The maestro followed the ancient formula, using over two hundred of the finest fragrances, to produce a mesmerizing perfume.
Talking about the moment in which the fragrance was complete, he said, “In a mystical moment, connecting the past with the present, a new masterpiece was born, a timeless fragrance that evokes the sheer joy of romance!” It is named L’Aurora, after Guercino’s masterpiece which transforms the ceiling of the Great Hall of Villa Aurora into a breathtaking spectacle of the heavens erupting with the light of a new day.
A male fragrance, used by the first Prince of Piombino, was also unearthed from the archives and was recreated. It is named Giove Nettuno Plutone, after the only known ceiling painted by Caravaggio. Depicting the mighty gods Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto around a vast crystal orb, the ceiling casts magic across the Villa’s Alchemy Room, where unfettered minds once sought to transform lead into gold.
