Oxford Film Festival’s Summer Series to Begin This June

Oxford, MS, May 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Series is a result of popular demand among Oxford residents.

The Oxford Film Festival is working with the newly reopened Lyric Theater, to create a new summer film series. Films will screen on Mondays, one time only, as a way to bring independent films to the community outside of the festival experience.

The limited summer series showcased three well attended movies last May, June and July and showed that the local community is thirsty for good films year round. Building upon last summer’s success, and in order to highlight films that may not be available on the festival circuit in time for next year’s festival the Oxford Film Festival is introducing the 10-week “Movie Mondays” beginning on June 1.

The summer calendar:
June 1 = We Fun, documentary on Atlanta musicians by Matthew Robison. Filmmaker will do a Q&A.
June 8 = Adventures of Power, a touching comedy directed by and starring Ari Gold
June 15 = Motherland, documentary focusing on grieving mothers who travel to South Africa for charity work
June 22 =Splinterheads, directed by Brant Sersen (of Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story). Filmmaker will do a Q&A
June 29 = R.I.P.: a Remix Manifesto, documentary by Brett Gaylor - focus on GirlTalk
July 6 = Lightbulb, touching story about an inventor starring Jeremy Renner, Dallas Roberts and Ayelet Zurer
July 13 = Mine, documentary on pets during Hurricane Katrina - Proceeds from screening will go to the local humane society
July 20 = HottieBoombaLottie, a geektastic comedy by Seth Packard
July 27 = Joe York Documentaries - focusing on local documentary films, filmmaker will do a Q&A
August 3 = The Night of the Loup Garou - New werewolf film by Oxford's Micah Ginn. Stars daughter of UM Coach Houston Nutt and Ballast actor Johnny McPhail. Filmmaker will do a Q&A

The Lyric, located on the Square in Oxford Miss., was extensively renovated in 2008. It was originally opened as a silent movie theater in 1913 and played a variety of films including the world premiere of local William Faulkner’s “Intruder in the Dust” in 1949. For years the building was used for retail space but the co-owner Tim Sims and Bradley Bishop have transformed it into a major venue space for music and film.

Tickets will be $5 at the door. If sponsors for the 2010 festival pledge funds before June, they will be given two free summer movie passes.

The Oxford Film Festival is a non-profit film festival that is held annually in February at the Oxford, Miss. Malco Studio Theater. The film festival just announced the call for entries for its 7th anniversary on Feb. 4-7, 2010.
