DAVACO and FGI of Dallas Announce Winners of Excellence in Merchandising Competition

Dallas, TX, May 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- DAVACO, Inc. and Fashion Group International® of Dallas recently announced the winners of the third annual Excellence in Merchandising Competition at FGI’s Career Day 2009 Style Symposium in Dallas, Texas on April 17, 2009. Lindsey Jones, a student at Texas Woman’s University, was honored as the first place winner and the recipient of a $1000 scholarship. Second place was awarded to Kelly DeRouen, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, with a $750 scholarship and third place was awarded to Dana Padgett, Stephen F. Austin University with a $250 scholarship.

The merchandising competition, which was open to all students participating in the FGI Dallas Career Day, is designed to recognize outstanding performance by students in merchandising, marketing, branding and promotion at the retail level. DAVACO and FGI-Dallas partnered with Kenneth Cole New York to develop a competition based on the Kenneth Cole New York product line and corresponding brand merchandising in department stores across the country. The students were required to make a store visit to assess the brand’s existing conditions, including challenges and successes, and then submit a written report and merchandising board to visually represent their experience and ideas for improvement.

“I was very impressed with the quality and creativity of these students, and I applaud the efforts of these three award recipients,” said Henry Thervil, director of sales for Kenneth Cole New York, who served on the award selection committee. “This competition provides an excellent experience for these future retail leaders and a wonderful way to earn scholarships to support their continued education. I saw a lot of talent and enthusiasm among these students, and I’m so pleased to have had the opportunity to participate in this event as a speaker and award presenter.”

Fashion Group International’s Dallas Career Day is the largest and longest-running event of its kind in the country, with over 1,200 students and faculty members from 42 colleges and universities across 10 states. DAVACO and FGI will sponsor the competition again in 2010. Details on the event and Excellence in Merchandising Competition will be posted in the fall of 2009 on FGI’s website at www.dallascareerday.org.
