Coventry University Recognised at Learning Impact Awards
Barcelona, Spain, May 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Coventry University, supported by The Learning Edge Europe’s EQUELLA solution, has been recognised at the annual Learning Impact Awards. Coventry University’s CURVE project was acknowledged with a ‘best in category’ award as the best institutional repository.
Winners were announced at Learning Impact 2009, held from May 11-14, 2009 in Barcelona, Spain. The Learning Impact Awards are designed to recognise the most impactful use of technology worldwide in support of learning. It is facilitated by the IMS Global Learning Consortium (IMS GLC).
CURVE is Coventry University’s institutional repository, implemented using EQUELLA. Appealing to the current educational environment and pressures, EQUELLA provides tremendous advantages to institutions by allowing Research, Library, eLearning departments and other external parties with access to a centralised digital repository.
Support for standards-based federation of content enables EQUELLA to become the platform for indexing, search and retrieval of content, no matter where it is stored - including on YouTube and iTunesU.
“EQUELLA allows us to have one repository for the whole institution. Through the concept of Collections we can organise, secure and personalise access to content for all constituents of our institution, both internal like the library, research and eLearning departments as well as external for our Business & Community Exchange partnerships,” said Professor David Morris, Director of Higher Education Development, Coventry University.
“The support by EQUELLA of interoperability standards means we can have a safe and scalable repository for our content.”
“Currently we are using EQUELLA to facilitate migration of learning content to our current learning environment. During this project we discovered that EQUELLA also addresses the challenge to comply to the Copyright Licensing Act and that we can use it to unlock Research Content. By using one system for three purposes we will save significant costs, have more control over our content and already see that the content is easier to find, better indexed and more widely used than ever before.”
EQUELLA is a proven, scalable solution and has been implemented within educational institutions worldwide, ranging in size from The Orange Grove, Florida’s K-20 Digital Repository and British Columbia's BCcampus, through to school consortia in the UK.
“Coventry University’s success reinforces the exciting nature of the projects being undertaken by our clients,” said Bob Cupitt, Chief Executive Officer, The Learning Edge Europe. “We look forward to working in partnership with other clients like Coventry to achieve ongoing success in the EMEA territory, replicating the success we have achieved within Australasia and North America.”
