Savoo Welcomes Plans to Reduce Online Credit Card Fraud

Voucher website Savoo has today welcomed Government proposals for a White Paper aimed at protecting the public against online fraud, and increasing consumer knowledge when shopping online.

London, United Kingdom, May 17, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Voucher website Savoo has today welcomed Government proposals for a White Paper aimed at protecting the public against online fraud, and increasing consumer knowledge when shopping online.

Figures released yesterday by the Office of Fair Trading show that a third of internet users are not shopping online because of worries over credit card fraud, and even for those who do shop online, 72 per cent admit to concerns doing so.

The Interactive Media In Retail Group estimate that £43.8bn was spent on online retail in the UK last year, with online sales for big brand names like Dell enjoying increased revenue thanks, in part, to passing on savings to the consumer with Dell vouchers on their range of computers and software. The Office of Fair Trading says consumer confidence is improving, with 54 per cent of online shoppers considering it as safe as shopping in store, while Consumer Direct says that more people are now seeking guidance about internet shopping transactions.

Despite these findings, one of the fastest growing online sectors in the UK is voucher websites like Savoo, with savvy shoppers seeking out the best money-saving deals from High Street shops to top brand stores. Savoo only affiliates with well-known retailers, where consumers can pick up anything from online exclusives, like a 20% off McAfee voucher, to incredible savings with Mothercare vouchers, Boots discounts and voucher codes from popular high street grocery stores like Tesco and Asda.

Savoo Company General Manager, Ryan Owen, says that “Apart from the obvious impact to the economy, by not shopping online consumers are missing out on incredible savings that are not available in-store. It is a shame that any consumer avoids the channel out of fear, and we welcome the government’s proposals to offer shoppers better protection against online fraud.”

There are a number of ways in which you can protect yourself while shopping online, and Savoo has produced an article outlining these, along with some great voucher codes to save you money at the same time.

Notes to Editors:

The OFT report found that 30 per cent of internet users identified lack of trust as the main factor for not shopping online, whilst 20 per cent cited fears over personal security and 15 per cent said they did not trust companies that sell online.

Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gareth Thomas, said the forthcoming consumer White Paper was aiming to better protect people from fraudsters and increase their consumer knowledge when shopping on-line.

www.savoo.co.uk launched in October 2008 as www.vouchernetwork.co.uk, and became branded as Savoo in April 2009. It is the sister company to Savings.com, one of the largest voucher sites in the USA.
