Main Line Private School Athlete Named BAL “Player of the Year”
Devon Prep Basketball Players Recognized by Bicentennial Athletic League.
Devon, PA, May 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Three Devon Prep Varsity Basketball Players were recognized for by the Bicentennial Athletic League (BAL). Junior Jeff Hughes was named Player of the Year as well as a member of the Independence Division All League First Team. Senior Neil Moerman was also named to the First Team. Sophomore Duncan Becker received an Honorable Mention.
Hughes had also been named MVP for the Radnor Kick-off Tournament and the Springfield (Montco) Holiday Tournament. Throughout the season he averaged 19.1 points and 7.2 assists per game. He recently received Devon Prep’s MVP Award for Basketball.
Moerman was named First Team All Tournament for the Radnor Kick-off Tournament and the Springfield Holiday Tournament. His season average was 14.8 points and 12 rebounds per game. He also received Devon Prep’s MVP Award for Basketball as well as the Excellence in Field Events Award and Outstanding Athlete Award.
Both Hughes and Moerman were named to the All Main Line First Team for Basketball and Moerman was named to the All Main Line First Team for Track as well.
Becker averaged 8.7 points per game and 9.2 rebounds.
Competing in the Bicentennial Athletic League Devon Prep’s Varsity Basketball team finished the season with a 16-7 record under the direction of Coach Bill Frio. They won the Radnor Tournament in December after defeating Radnor High School and Great Valley High School and the Springfield (Montco) Holiday Tournament as well. They were seeded first in Class AA District 1 and went on to play in PIAA Class AA playoffs in early March.
Devon Prep is a small, private, Catholic, college preparatory school for young men in grades six to 12 conducted by the Piarist Fathers.
