Pleyo, the Open-Source Interactive Digital TV Solution for Hybrid Devices
Wedison project aims to be the first opensource implementation of the ongoing specification for Interactive Digital TV in Germany and France. The project will stick to this specification (based on OpenIPTV Forum and CE-HTML) in the first iteration, then will bring a comprehensive CE-HTML implementation.
Montpellier, France, May 20, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Wedison, an open-source project supported by Astra APS (Germany), Inverto (Luxembourg) and Pleyo (France), is born.
Wedison sets itself as a goal to deliver a pan-european interactive Digital TV solution for hybrid devices such as Set Top Boxes and TVsets based on the emerging German&French specifications.
Wedison relies on Web standards as CE-HTML and OpenIPTV Forum specifications. Thesolution uses Origyn Web Browser (OWB), an open-source web browser based on Webkit (Apple).
Wedison allows to european Digital industry:
- to reduce the time-to-market
- to remain close to the standards
- to focus on its added-value
It's possible to be an actor of a new generation of interactive Digital TV by joining Wedisonproject.
The project opens to new partners to sponsor the development, assign
ressources, develop applications for Wedison, test, promote or demonstrate the platform.
Thereʼs only one citizen class in Wedison Membership: Every partner will access internal roadmap, schedule decisions, promotions actions, synergies between partners, support from Pleyo.
First public shows are : IFA and IBC (September 2009).
About Origyn Web Browser (OWB) :
For the last years, OWB has built a reputation of a strong alternative to port WebKit on constrainted or specific environments.
OWB brings the whole WebKit power while reducing the hassle of porting and staying up to date, thanks to its unique Origyn Web Browser Abstraction Layer (OWBAL).
OWB v4 comes with the usual GTK and Amiga full-featured implementation, SDL sample implementation, Windows enabled, and now also provides a full QT implementation. It also brings a new control API, simplified and faster to enable in the target framework.
