Lowe's How-to Clinics Teach Women Construction Skills
Aberdeen, NC, May 20, 2009 --(PR.com)-- For women who want to build a village, but don’t know where to start, Habitat for Humanity of the NC Sandhills and Lowe’s have the answer. As the 2009 underwriter for Habitat for Humanity International’s Women Build program, Lowe’s is hosting how-to clinics May 23rd and May 30th at its Southern Pines store to help prepare women volunteers to build a Sandhills-area house this fall.
The free clinics not only teach women home construction basics, they provide extensive hands-on opportunities to practice these new skills. The two clinics will help educate the volunteers on basic construction and tool safety techniques, enabling them to be confident and effective in their volunteer efforts with Habitat for Humanity of the NC Sandhills. Among other things, women will have the opportunity to practice using power tools, framing walls and helping build a playhouse that will be raffled off for Father’s Day.
Clinics will take place at Lowe’s, Southern Pines, on the following dates:
How to Safely Use Hand and Power Tools May 23rd at 9am
How to Frame for Walls and Roofs May 30th at 9am
To sign up for the clinics or to learn more about Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program, interested volunteers should contact Judie Wiggins at 910-295-1934. Registered volunteers should wear comfortable clothing and bring a ready-to-learn attitude. All supplies will be provided on site.
Lowe’s is a national partner with Habitat for Humanity International and is the underwriter of Habitat’s Women Build program, which actively engages women in construction to address the problem of substandard housing.
With Lowe’s support women are redefining home making by building homes that move families out of substandard housing. Women Build is a program of Habitat for Humanity International. Lowe’s, a Fortune 50 company with more than 58 years in the business of home improvement, is the Women Build underwriter.
