Reinvented IV Pole Wins IDSA Award
Modo, a Portland-based manufacturer of carts, roll stands and mobile workstations for medical technology, has been recognized for their Mia IV Pole. The pole supports infusion pumps and medication delivery devices manufactured by Cardinal Health. Infusion is one of the largest segments of the global medical device industry. More than 200,000 nurses in hospitals around the world use Cardinal Health technology to deliver more than 45 million infusions each year.
Portland, OR, May 20, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Modo has received a Gold award in the 2009 Northwest Design Invitational competition, sponsored by the Western District of the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA).
The award jury chose Modo’s Mia IV Pole, a configurable product line designed to support infusion pumps and medication delivery devices manufactured by Cardinal Health. More than 200,000 nurses in hospitals around the world use Cardinal Health technology to deliver more than 45 million infusions each year.
Mia humanizes a hospital stay by giving patients more control over their environment and a safe, stable place for their infusion devices. Mia introduces a simple, approachable aesthetic into a hospital setting. Compact and easy to maneuver, Mia helps nurses spend more time with patients by making infusion technology easier to set up and use.
Goo Sung, Design Manager at Modo, commented on why Mia patients like Mia: “Mia is friendly, stable and easy to move. Mia is a companion, not a badge of illness.” Cardinal Health’s Mia brings sophisticated medication delivery technology to the bedside. “IV poles are everywhere in a hospital. The biennial Northwest Design Invitational honors leaders in industrial design and attracted the most competitive entries in its 24-year history with firms like Ziba, Whipsaw and Teague participating. This year’s competition featured more than 25 different design organizations and universities. Modo’s innovative design was selected from more than 80 entries. The jurors evaluated entries according to the competition’s five criteria of excellence: design innovation, user benefits, market benefits, ecological responsibility and appropriate aesthetics.
