Netezza Names Jim Baum President and COO
Experienced Technology Industry Veteran Joins Netezza Team to Further Drive Data Warehouse Appliance Market Leadership, Rapid Growth and Success.
Framingham, MA, August 08, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Netezza today announced that it has named former Parametric Technology Corp. (PTC) and Endeca senior executive Jim Baum to the position of President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Baum, who also joins the board of directors, will report to Jit Saxena, Netezza’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and co-founder, focusing on operational growth and scaling as the Company builds on its success at the forefront of the data warehouse appliance market.
Prior to Netezza, Baum was president and CEO of Endeca, building the Company during his five-year tenure to more than 270 customers. Previously, as executive vice president and general manager at PTC, Baum helped drive the Company’s growth to more than $1 billion in revenues during his 11-year tenure.
“As an experienced veteran of growth companies, Jim was a natural choice as Netezza continues to scale operations to meet growing demand for our groundbreaking data warehouse appliances,” said Saxena. “Jim joins one of the most experienced and talented management teams in the industry, arriving at a time when more and more companies continue to adopt Netezza as the critical backbone for a new generation of data-rich business analytics.”

IDC has called Netezza’s data warehouse appliance approach “revolutionary” and recently stated that “appliances are here to stay.” (1) InformationWeek, Computerworld, InfoWorld, DM Review and others have awarded Netezza and its management team accolades for vision and performance.
“This is a tremendous time for Netezza, as a growing number of market-leading companies around the world use data warehouse appliances to power strategic business intelligence,” said Baum. “I look forward to helping Netezza continue to capitalize on a ‘perfect storm’ market opportunity in which companies are fundamentally improving the way they use analytics to drive their businesses.”

The Netezza Performance Server (NPS) system is the market-leading data warehouse appliance, built specifically to analyze terabytes of detailed data 10 to 100 times faster than existing data warehouse options, at half the cost. The NPS system stores, filters and processes terabytes of records within a single unit, analyzing only the relevant information for each query. Netezza has placed the CPU power next to the data, allowing the NPS system to speed through processes that would occupy most data warehouse systems for hours, or even days, thereby enabling dramatic increases in productivity across the organization. Customers who have recognized the benefits of Netezza’s approach include Ahold, Amazon.com, Cingular Wireless, CNET Networks, Debenhams, Epsilon, Orange UK, Premier, Inc., Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation, The Carphone Warehouse and The TJX Companies.
