Timber Frame Raising Celebration and Green Building Seminar in NH

Milford, NH, May 21, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Join them to view one of New Hampshire’s most exciting new home projects of 2009 under construction. Come see a hybrid energy efficient stick built home with a post & beam center that is open 3 stories. The home is being Energy Star rated and uses a variation of the Smart R insulation package pioneered by Zetland Homes LLC (www.zetlandhomes.com). The Smart R system uses a combination of spray foam and blown in cellulose or fiberglass to achieve an air tight wall with a high R value at an affordable price. In addition, this home has a standing column geothermal system that is used to provide radiant floor heat as well as forced air heating and cooling.

The post and beam center is milled from Douglas Fir wood provided by Honest Abe Log Homes (www.honestabe.com) using large 8x8 posts and 8x12 girders. It is a simpler and more rustic version of a timber frame and uses mechanical fasteners. This hybrid style home is a great alternative for an owner who wants the look of post & beam or timber frame without the expense of building the whole structure out of timbers. The Smart R insulation package also rivals the performance of an EPS Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) at a lower installed cost. This home was custom designed by architect Barry Arthur Hoeg for a large family.

The popular seminar Green Building: Energy Efficiency and Beyond is being offered at 1:00 on site. This seminar covers the recent advances in building science as they relate to home building and includes an overview of green building programs including Energy Star, LEED for Homes, and Build Green NH. The presenter is Steven Reddy, Operations Manager of Zetland Homes LLC. Reddy is one of the nation’s first Certified Green Professionals (CGP) and a frequent speaker on applied building science, energy efficient construction, and green homes.

Zetland Homes LLC built the 21st Century Victorian Demonstration Green Home (www.zetlandparade.com) in cooperation with the US Green Building Council under the LEED for Homes Pilot Program. This home was the 2008 Cornerstone Award Winner for “most energy efficient design solution” and “best new home under $450,000”. The Demonstration Green home was recently awarded the National Dream Home silver medal for Green Home Project of the Year.
