Dream Power Foundation Launches the "Shooting Star Kids" Fundraising Campaign with a Community Culture Celebration

Seattle, WA, May 22, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Dream Power Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of its "Shooting Star Kids" fundraising campaign, hosted by Central Cinema on May 24, 2009. The Community Culture Celebration is a free and family-friendly event that will feature positive entertainment, and is the first time scenes from the Star Kids Movie – an independent film that aspires to teach positive values to one million at-risk youth – will be shown to the public.

Violence on our streets has become so common that the Seattle City Council recently voted unanimously to spend an additional $1.3 million on the mayor's Youth Violence Prevention Initiative, aimed at reducing youth gang violence. Star Kids also hopes to reach out to at-risk youth by offering them positive role models that counter the glorification of violence seen all too often in media, movies and video games. Film director and Dream Power Foundation founder William Spiritdancer said, “Now, more than ever, it is important that we counteract the stereotypical roles our children see portrayed by the media by creating positive, unique, and uplifting alternatives.” The goal is to finish filming the rest of the movie this summer, edit during the fall and release the film in early 2010. This "Shooting Star Kids" event will be the first of several to help raise awareness of the project and enough money to finish production on schedule. “With these event want to share our vision with communities and families, bring together those that support our youth, and celebrate those that exemplify the positivity we want our kids to aspire to.”
