LACAP Launches a Hand-Edited UK Psychotherapist & Counsellor Directory Today
The London Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (LACAP) has started work compiling and publishing a regional database of recommended Counselling, Psychotherapy and Therapy websites today. LACAP hopes to complete the project by the end of September 2009.
London, United Kingdom, May 22, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Donald Kirkpatrick, the clinical manager commented: “LACAP was receiving enquiries for counselling and psychotherapy services every day from across the UK. The way that LACAP is set up, with a not-for-profit and low-fee capacity, is not readily found elsewhere. We decided to have a closer look at what private therapy and counselling resources there are in the metropolitan areas in the UK.”
With quite a number of www.directories listing Psychotherapy Services why is this not a redundant addition?
The answer seems to be that directories can charge fees for inclusion on their lists. Although some may make basic checks, their interest is in the volume of clients on their books. What The London Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy is wanting to do is different.
Phil Rickwood is involved in the editorial team. He said: “Our editors have trawled the first five to ten pages of Google results by UK City. We have listed the five therapist sites that we thought were the most interesting. LACAP has commented against each why that psychotherapist or counsellor's website features in our top five list. We think that accessibility, cost, and range of psychological services offered are important factors. LACAP has also commented why that particular site caught our editor's attention. You have a snapshot, or précis, of that psychotherapy site's contents, in an immediate and accessible format.
What you have here is a clinicians view of the website. While this is not a conclusive thing, it may well be preferable to other directories that are unable to edit down because of the impact on their business revenues, or are unable to comment from an 'insider' professional point of view.”
The Directory Website Page can be found at this address: http://www.london-counselling-psychotherapy.co.uk/therapists.links.htm . This initiative seems in keeping with other recent work at LACAP to contribute to the provision of affordable and effective psychological interventions, and to respond to Government initiatives in this field, such as the State Regulation of Psychotherapy Services and the NICE audit of treatment for depression.
