Flexfit Supports Mauli Ola Foundation as a Title Sponsor to Benefit Kids with Cystic Fibrosis
Flexfit headwear is a title sponsor of Mauli Ola Foundation’s 2009 Surf Experience Day events to benefit children and young adults with cystic fibrosis.
Hicksville, NY, May 21, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Flexfit headwear is a title sponsor for this year’s Mauli Ola Foundation Surf Experience Day events beginning May 16, 2009 in Santa Cruz, California and ending in Haleiwa, Hawaii on December 5, 2009. MOF Surf Experience Days are a series of seven surfing events overseen by pro-surfing instructors to benefit the health and well being of children and young adults who are living with cystic fibrosis.
MOF Surf Experience Days were established to help young people with cystic fibrosis by allowing them to enjoy a morale boosting day of athletic fun in the sun while also benefiting medically from the high saline content in the ocean and ocean air. According to an article published on CNN.com by Managing Editor Peggy Peck, “Two studies conducted by the New England Journal of Medicine report that cystic fibrosis patients who inhaled a specially mixed saltwater solution at least twice a day had half as many hospitalizations for lung problems, and significantly improved their ability to clear mucus from the lungs.”
“The patients in the studies also had a marked improvement in lung function. Surfers with cystic fibrosis had fewer lung exacerbations,” concurred Dr. Scott Donaldson of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The thirty thousand Americans living with cystic fibrosis do not have the correct amount of salt and water lining their airways, due to a genetic defect. Without sufficient lubrication in the lungs, mucus builds up and blocks the airways. A saltwater environment helps people with CF to naturally create a healthier salt and water balance in their lungs. It was this groundbreaking therapeutic breakthrough that compelled Flexfit to become involved in the cause.
Flexfit’s financial contribution as well as their donation of customized headwear for these surfing events supports Mauli Ola Foundation in their efforts to help young people with cystic fibrosis to thrive in spite of their illness. According to MOF President James Dunlop, “In the case of cystic fibrosis we take children and young adults surfing because the saline acts as a natural treatment by hydrating the lungs, creating better lung function.”
All MOF Surf Experience Days are overseen by pro-surfers who instruct the kids on surfing while acting as mentors to provide inspiration and emotional support, allowing these kids to be carefree for the day.
