Cedille Records Now Distributed by Naxos in Western Hemisphere

Chicago, IL, May 29, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Cedille Records, Chicago’s acclaimed, independent nonprofit classical record company, has joined Naxos of America’s family of distributed labels.

Naxos of America this month became exclusive distributor of all Cedille Records titles in the United States and Canada and, through its partners, in Mexico, Central America, and South America.

“Cedille will celebrate its 20th anniversary this fall, and joining forces with Naxos of America is a milestone in our mission of bringing world class artists in and from Chicago to music lovers far and wide,” said James Ginsburg, Cedille Records’ founder and president.

“We knew that Naxos of America thought very highly of our recordings, so we were delighted when they approached us about distribution,” Ginsburg said. “The Naxos label is a cornerstone of classical music retailing, powered by an outstanding distribution organization. Being part of the Naxos sales catalog, along with such stellar labels as Chandos, Naïve, CPO, and others, is going to raise our visibility and prominence among retail buyers.”

Jeff Van Driel, director of business and legal affairs for Naxos of America, said, “Cedille is a gem of a label whose catalog nicely complements our other offerings. Its wonderful artists, attractive repertoire, and fresh, creative programming have drawn critical acclaim and a growing fan base.”

Cedille was one of the first independent labels outside the Naxos stable to be added to the Naxos Music Library, a subscription streaming music service for academic institutions. Cedille albums and tracks also have been available to consumers through Naxos’s ClassicsOnline.com digital download service.

Naxos of America’s May 2009 catalog devotes a page to introducing Cedille Records, highlighting its Grammy Award-winning and Grammy-nominated CDs and selected artists, including violinists Rachel Barton Pine and Jennifer Koh, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Larmore, pianist Ursula Oppens, the Grant Park Orchestra, Chicago Opera Theater, the Pacifica Quartet, and new-music ensemble eighth blackbird.

The introduction says Cedille’s catalog “demonstrates the label’s commitment to the advancement of local artists and diversity in classical music, the dissemination of new works, and the preservation of underrepresented classical repertoire.”

Another full page is devoted to Cedille’s May 2009 releases (which are also the label’s first new releases of the year), in stores May 26. These include "American Choral Premieres," with the William Ferris Chorale; "Jewish Cabaret in Exile," with the New Budapest Orpheum Society; "Romantic Music for Piano Four-Hands," with piano duettists Elizabeth Buccheri and Richard Baldrey, a mid-price reissue digitally remastered from analog master tapes; and "Cedille on the Move," a budget-priced sampler CD of up-tempo kinetic classics from Cedille’s catalog.
