New Online Application Promotes Progress in Metro Detroit
Troy, MI, May 31, 2009 --(PR.com)-- At the Mackinac Policy Conference on Friday, Edsel B. Ford II spoke about bringing unity and a collaborative spirit back to Detroit and the State of Michigan as he presented the 2009 One D Scorecard.
The One D Scorecard, www.onedscorecard.org, is part of a regional, civic initiative that launched in November 2006 to support regional progress in Southeast Michigan.
The scorecard analyzes more than 75 indicators for five priority areas: Economic Prosperity, Educational Preparedness, Race Relations, Regional Transit, and Quality of Life. Based on the five areas, the scorecard sets a baseline to track progress and compares Michigan and the Detroit metropolitan area against other metropolitan areas and states.
Media Genesis, a Troy web development firm, collaborated with One D, the New Economy Initiative, Brogan & Partners and D-ACIS to develop the scorecard. The scorecard, once a printed document, is now a comprehensive and interactive online application.

Media Genesis developed the Adobe Flex application and content management system for the scorecard. Flex creates a seamless user experience because the pages do not reload unlike a typical HTML site. The content management system is flexible enough to accommodate the addition, removal and editing of its various components. Furthermore, the application houses a multitude of raw data, available for download by site visitors.
The region fared well in areas of home ownership, creative industry jobs, patents, and science and engineering workforce. The region didn't fare as well in the areas of black and white segregation, infant mortality, CO2 emissions, and the attraction and retention of young talent.
