Columbia, SC, May 31, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Sensei Chris Feldt, owner and chief instructor for Samurai Karate Studio, was invited to be a guest speaker at Rice Creek Elementary School on Friday, May 29th.
Sensei Feldt presented anti bully strategies for the 3rd through 5th graders. The presentation emphasized good body language, the power of your voice and what to do if someone was bullying you.
"It's important for the kids to recognize there are things they can do to help thwart a bully," said Feldt. "Body language is the easiest thing to fix and really makes a difference when the kids show they are not so afraid or timid."
Feldt also emphasized to the kids to make sure they keep an open line of communication to their teachers, guidance councilors, adminstrators, resource officers and most importantly, parents.
"Children need to talk to their parents and express their feelings," commented Feldt. "Parents can work behind the scenes at their school to be sure their son or daughter is safe from bullying."
Later in the day, Sensei Feldt addressed the kindergarteners through 2nd grade and talked about stranger danger. "With the school year nearly over, the kids will be playing outside or visiting friends and family and this is a great time to practice stranger danger tactics," commented Feldt. "I get the kids involved and ask for volunteers and I cover tricks that strangers pull on young unsuspecting children."
He shared several safety tips with the kids, including who is a stranger, what do they act like, tricks they like to use, and what to do if a child gets separated from a parent in a store.
"I had a great time working with these children and I would like to thank Rice Creek for giving me the opportunity to visit with the children, " said Feldt, "and I hope all the children learned something new today that will keep them safer."
