Enjoy a Double Treat with Two of Ashvin Kumar’s Momentous Films in One DVD
Ashvin Kumar a renowned independent filmmaker, internationally recognized for his path breaking work, now gives his audiences a double treat with two of his best films in one DVD.
Mumbai, India, June 08, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Ashvin Kumar a renowned independent filmmaker, internationally recognized for his path breaking work, now gives his audiences a double treat with two of his best films in one DVD. The DVD boasts of the 2003 released ‘Road to Ladakh’ and the 2004 released ‘Little Terrorist’.
The common factor between both the films is that they are short films and have received unanimous global appreciation. Little terrorist was, in fact, nominated for the Oscars in 2005 and has won over 25 international awards and honours in over 130 film festivals including a nomination to the European Film Academy. Again a first for an Indian.
Little Terrorist is the first Indian short film to receive international fame and recognition. It also made Ashvin Kumar the only Indian to be nominated for an Academy award in the live short film category. It It is also probably the only Indian film that has been to every continent on planet Earth and been showed in at least 30 countries if not more. It is the only Indian film to be nominated at the European Film Awards. Ashvin Kumar has also added another feather to his cap with Little Terrorist, by becoming the first Indian film maker to be nominated in the short film category and the fifth film maker from India ever to be nominated at the Oscars making him a part of the illustrious troupe comprising Ashutosh Gowarikar, Deepa Mehta, Mira Nair and Shekhar Kapur.
About ‘Road to Ladakh’ & ‘Little Terrorist’:
Irrfan Khan and Koel Puri starrer Road to Ladakh is a 48 min long film. It is a poignant story about two lonely people who are scared to trust each other and who eventually fall in love. Little terrorist is a touching 15 min film, based on a real life incident. It is about a little Pakistani boy who mistakenly crosses the border and enters a Rajasthani village where a shepherd and his wife take him into their care and have to find a way of getting him back home. The story brought out the capacity for human goodness despite the existence of borders and war.
Apart from these two films, the DVD also contains the making of them both. That gives a viewer an idea how they were shot in critical conditions and yet succeeded in not losing the balance on intent. Definitely a treat for a budding film maker to watch and learn some valuable lessons.
“Sometime it was tough... everyone in the film worked for free including Irrfan and Koel because we didn’t have money to put up people in cheap city hotels either but we managed...”, reminisces Ashvin Kumar.

About Ashvin Kumar: Ashvin Kumar began working as an actor and director in theatre. After taking a degree in Media and Communications (University of London) he began working as an editor. Ashvin set up a digital post-production business in New Delhi before he relocated to London where he established Alipur Films while briefly attending the London Film School. Ashvin wrote several screenplays turning the first of them into the featurette ‘Road To Ladakh’. Ashvin is a writer and director. He also edits and produces his own films. He is currently in post production with his debut feature The Forest and developing two other projects set in India.
