New York Investing Meetup to Host Debate on Future Direction of the Stock Market and the Economy
Financial blogger Daryl Montgomery and newsletter writer Steve Frenkel have both made accurate predictions about the stock market and the economy in the last two years, but now their views have diverged. Hear both sides of the argument at the New York Investing meetup's June 4th meeting and then decide for yourself.
New York, NY, June 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- If you’ve been wondering what to do with your stock investments, you can find out at the June 4th meeting of the New York Investing meetup. Financial blogger Daryl Montgomery will be debating newsletter writer Steve Frenkel on the state of the market and whether or not the economy is facing the threat on inflation or deflation. Hear both sides of the argument and decide for yourself.
“I have been looking to debate someone on these issues for a long time”, said Montgomery who organizes the New York Investing meetup in addition to being the blogger for the popular ‘Helicopter Economics Investing Guide’. “Investors are justifiably confused at this juncture”, continued the former professor who has helped bring critical thinking analysis to economic and investing issues and used his research to become a successful trader. “We plan on sorting it all out for them”. It wouldn’t be the first time that the New York Investing meetup has helped clarify the market picture. The group accurately predicted the Credit Crisis, that a bear market in stocks would begin in the fall of 2007 and that a recession was starting in December of that year. More recently, it called the bottom in oil prices to the day. The group has helped its members remain profitable with their investments, while others have seen their portfolios cut in half.
Frenkel, for his part, has had a long career on Wall Street including stints as a broker, investment banker, research director and market strategist. He is currently the chief technical analyst for Patternwatch. From 1986 to 2006, he wrote the investing column, ‘Frenkly Speaking’. He has been a frequent guest on Bloomberg TV, CNNfN and CNBC. Like the New York Investing meetup, Frenkel was correctly bearish on the stock market, while most others were still telling the public to buy stocks.
Frenkel and Montgomery have diametrically opposed viewpoints on the future market direction and whether or not we are about to enter an inflationary environment. Commenting on the upcoming event, long time New York Investing meetup member Bob Rubin said, “Having watched Montgomery in action for the last three years, I am expecting a real intellectual slugfest”. Newer attendee David Avery agreed, “This isn’t going to be one of those softball interviews like the ones you usually see on TV”. Jason Tillberg though has high hopes for Frenkel, stating “Steve’s a high caliber guy, I expect him to hold his own”.
The June 4th meeting is open to the public and will take place in Manhattan at PS 41, 116 West 11th St from 6:45 to 8:45PM. There is a $5 admission charge. An online RSVP is requested, but not required. For more information, please go to: investing.meetup.com/21.
