Leland, NC, June 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Buckinghams will be the special guests of the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, June 20th, at the Odell Williamson Auditorium, on the campus of Brunswick Community College in nearby Bolivia. Event organizers invited The Buckinghams to perform for their annual celebration of successful business development in Brunswick County, recently named as the 17th-fastest growing county in America.
The Buckinghams began their career in the 1960s in Chicago as recording artists for Columbia Records. They achieved national fame when “Kind of a Drag” hit No. 1 on the charts. The Buckinghams expanded their reputation as a horn rock band that produced million-selling Top 10 hits, including “Hey Baby, They’re Playing Our Song,” “Don’t You Care,” “Lawdy Miss Clawdy,” “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” and “Susan.”
Lead singer Carl Giammarese says, “The Buckinghams are pleased to return to the beautiful eastern Carolina coast, and we’ll be performing all the hits our audience wants to hear, plus more Solid Gold favorites.” Giammarese continued, “We grew up with our audience, as they watched us perform on The Ed Sullivan Show, American Bandstand, and The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. We want all the baby boomers to come out and relive the fabulous 1960s, and then let’s introduce our next generation to power-packed classic rock.” The band will premiere songs from the group’s latest release, “Reaching Back.”
The weekend kicks off with a party for VIP sponsors/ticketholders, Friday June 19th, at Murray Art & Frame in Leland. Carl Giammarese, lead singer/guitarist, and bass player/vocalist, Nick Fortuna are slated to attend the VIP party. Attendees will have a chance to purchase “Reaching Back” and meet Carl and Nick for autographs and photos.
VIP Sponsors already committed include: Andy’s of Brunswick County, BB&T, Brenda Bozeman – RE/MAX Coastal Properties, Capeside Animal Hospital, East Carolina Bank, First Bank, Mulch & More, Murray Art & Frame, North Brunswick Magazine, Rhodes Law Offices, Riegelwood Federal Credit Union, Sweeney Dental Care and U.S. Cellular – EZ Wireless. Businesses are encouraged to join the VIP Sponsors Group before June 4th to be listed in the special Program Booklet.
VIP seating is $45 per ticket, and includes admission to Saturday’s concert and Friday’s kickoff party, hosted by Event Committee Chair, George Murray, of Murray Art & Frame, in Leland.
Murray says, “Last year, my wife Phyllis and I enjoyed hosting the VIP sponsor party here in the spacious courtyard of our store. The party for the Lovin’ Spoonful was so popular, no one wanted to go home. We’re excited to be hosting The Buckinghams and keep our tradition of Super 60s rock alive.” Murray added, “VIP tickets are going quickly, so people are welcome to call me for more information.”
The Buckinghams will perform at Odell Williamson Auditorium on Saturday, June 20th, beginning at 7:00 pm. Buckinghams’ bass player Nick Fortuna notes, “Our motto is ‘60 is the new 40.’ We want people to get out there and feel young again while we play, so join us for this great weekend.”
In 1967, Billboard Magazine named The Buckinghams "The Most Listened to Band in America." Concert-only tickets are available online at www.bccowa.com for $25, or visit the box office located on the campus of Brunswick Community College, in Bolivia.
