West Covina Symphony Orchestra Presents Free "Spirit of America" Concert
The West Covina Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Sylvia Lee Mann, presents the "Spirit of America" concert on Saturday June 27, 2009 at 7 p.m. The program is presented in cooperation with the West Covina Chamber of Commerce, the City of West Covina, the Covina United Methodist Church and the West Covina United Methodist Church. Music by Dvorak, Gershwin, Albert, Mann, Sousa and Smith will be performed.
West Covina, CA, June 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- In these challenging times, the West Covina Symphony Orchestra is presenting yet another free concert. The orchestra is presenting the fourth major concert of its first triumphant “return season”. The free “Spirit of America” concert will be presented Saturday June 27, 2009 at 7pm at the Covina United Methodist Church, 437 W. San Bernardino Rd, Covina, CA 91723. This concert is a tribute and celebration of the American spirit and the many cultures embodied within our country. The orchestra will be featuring an exciting array of music embracing the diverse heritage of our country, and our precious freedoms. The musical selections include Dvorak’s “Cello Concerto in B minor”, featuring the dynamic, charismatic Russian cellist, Ruslan Biryukov; Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” featuring outstanding Hong Kong born pianist Mary Au; American composer Adrienne Albert’s inspiring work for orchestra, “Courage”; Sylvia lee Mann’s “Solstice Celebration” and the world premiere of her new “Heritage Suite”, featuring superb soprano Frances Anthony. Also on the program, well-known tenor Charles E. Dickerson III will be singing our national anthem, The “Star Spangled Banner”. For a finale the orchestra will present “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa”.
The concert begins at 7pm. Symphony Society memberships will be available before and after the concert, as well at during the concert intermission. The symphony will be offering some very special membership premiums and door prizes at the concert.
Free, convenient parking is available in the Covina United Methodist Church parking lot.
