MCT Donates $1 Million in Scholarships to Chicago Area Students
Magnus Charitable Trust has chosen the recipients of its 2009 Scholarship and will be hosting a celebratory event for the 2004 and 2009 Scholarship recipients and their Mentors on June 27, 2009.
Arlington Heights, IL, June 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The new 25 recipients will be receiving up to $40,000 towards their college education. Maria Magnus, Director of the Trust, is hopeful that this group of students is as successful as the previous scholarship recipients. “We had 43 of the original 50 students graduate from college, and I am very proud of their accomplishments. One part of Magnus Charitable Trust’s goal is to help educate the world, and even though we are starting with these small groups, we can see the benefits in this and are looking to further that success in this new group of students.”
Maria said the reason why now is an important time to offer another scholarship, is two-fold; being involved with the achievements of the first scholarship recipients inspired her and secondly, “with the economy the way it is, people sometimes forget about those who were already financially challenged. That is why now more than ever it is time to offer this scholarship again.”
The financial support received by the 2004 recipients was important to the students, but most appreciated was the mentoring program put in place by the Trust. Many professionals volunteered their time to follow up with the students through their years of college; several of them working in the fields the students were striving to enter after graduation. Many of the graduates from the 2004 Scholarship have volunteered to mentor the next group of students.
Area media will be allowed to interview the students to see how the scholarships have made a difference in their lives...also to discuss where they would be today if not for the charitable donations.
Magnus Charitable Trust is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 private operating foundation. Please visit their website at www.MagnusCharitable.org for additional information. To schedule an interview, please contact the Trust office at 847-255-1100.
