WorkSmart Wins 2009 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Workplace Flexibility
Research Triangle Park, NC, June 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- WorkSmart, a leading provider of Information Technology services and solutions in North Carolina, has announced that the company was selected as a winner of the 2009 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility for the greater Durham area. The award, given at an event hosted by the Durham Chamber of Commerce, recognizes employers across the country that are successfully using flexibility to meet both business and employee goals. WorkSmart previously earned an honorable mention in 2008.
The award signifies that WorkSmart ranks in the top 20% of employers nationwide in terms of flexible work programs, policies and culture. WorkSmart offers flexibility in work start/end times and location. Employees may work out of the Durham or Charlotte offices and may telecommute where possible. The organization also offers paid time off for volunteer service. Other winners in the Triangle include Durham’s Partnership for Children, Expedite Group, The Shodor Education Foundation and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
The Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility are part of When Work Works, a national project on workplace effectiveness and workplace flexibility from Families and Work Institute in partnership with The Institute for a Competitive Workforce, an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the Twiga Foundation. Employers nominate themselves and employees of the selected finalists are surveyed to assess their perception of the organization’s commitment to work-life balance. Durham is one of 30 metro areas nationwide chosen to host and participate in the When Work Works initiative.
“We strongly believe in creating an invigorating and enjoyable work environment, including opportunities for team members to handle real life personal and family situations. This focus on improving the quality of work life has resulted in higher productivity and more engaged team members,” said WorkSmart CEO Ron Unger.
“As many of our team members are actively involved in nonprofit organizations, WorkSmart provides time off that is specifically designated for volunteer purposes and separate from personal and sick time. It is great to know that your upper management has a vested interest in its team members and the community,” remarked WorkSmart team member Marissa Libman.
