Meetings at Its Best: New Convention Centre at Swissôtel Chicago
Renowned for its architecture and location, the AAA Four-Diamond Swissôtel Chicago has opened it’s new meeting and convention centre. $47 million were invested into this expansion plan comprised of over 38’000 square feet of function space including a state-of-the-art 14’000 square feet ballroom.
Zurich, Switzerland, June 10, 2009 --(PR.com)-- “This expansion essentially changes the entire dynamic of the hotel by doubling the amount of function space, allowing the property to compete for extensive meeting business,” stated Tim Herman, the hotel’s General Manager. “The Event Centre in conjunction with the current function space will render Swissôtel Chicago as the ideal meeting headquarter venue - whether it is an executive meeting for 15 or a convention for 1,500.”
Swissôtel Chicago's new facilities have been designed without pillars for unobstructed viewing. Also, the meeting space features state-of-the-art technology including wireless internet capabilities, 400 amp service, extensive flexibility in lighting control and fiber optic cabling. The largest ballroom within the new facility, which is approximately 14’000 square feet, accommodates up to 1,365, theater-style. Additionally, the ceiling height is in excess of 17 feet with integrated hang points throughout the ballroom. Moreover, the facility includes 12’529 square feet of pre-function space.
“The expansion will create a positive financial impact for the City of Chicago, with anticipation that the expanded facilities will generate additional revenues to exceed $12 million annually,” commented Tim Herman. “Additionally, staffing levels will increase by adding approximately 75 new employees, as necessary to facilitate the increased business levels.”
The 661-room property is centrally located at 323 East Wacker Drive, offers panoramic views from Navy Pier to Millennium Park and is close to many Chicago attractions, including The Magnificent Mile.
