The Festival of India, presented by Toronto’s famous Hare Krishna Centre, has its roots in ancient India and is coming to Toronto on July 18-19, 2009. Close to 40,000 people participate every year in this two-day festival which provides a feast for the mind, body and soul.

Pre-Festival Party at Yonge-Dundas Square
This year, the Festival of India will once again present a "pre-festival party" at Yonge-Dundas Square during the week before the main celebrations, to give the City of Toronto a preview of what is to come. This year’s pre-festival will take place on Monday, July 13th, 2009 and will feature interactive exhibits, yoga demonstrations, a bazaar/marketplace, live entertainment and an evening concert.

Rocking Mantra Meditation Down Yonge

If you have ever experienced the power of mantra meditation, then prepare for a whole new way of seeing it. Weekend festivities kick off with a parade on July 18th at 11:00am which will cruise down Yonge Street, beginning at Bloor, making its way down to the lake. During the parade, three 40-foot tall floats are hand-pulled by participants amidst energetic singing, drumming and dancing.

Explore India’s Spiritual Roots on Centre Island

After the vibrant parade down Yonge Street, celebrations continue at Centre Island for the remainder of the weekend where one will find a massive, colourful and free festival. The biggest highlight is the free vegetarian feast. The festival also features a stunning arts & culture showcase, dramas, a South Asian Bazaar, exhibits, a children's area, and much more.

Yoga Meltdown

Celebrated as a “festival within a festival”, on Sunday July 19th, the Second Annual Yoga Meltdown will present the public with a chance to unwind, rejuvenate and invigorate themselves with a free outdoor yoga festival. Presenting the spiritual depth of yoga, Yoga Meltdown will feature free yoga classes, vegetarian cooking demonstrations, mantra meditation circles and stage performances.
