Local Author Offers Free Writing Workshop, Celebrates New Book with Free Food and Prize Drawings
Writer’s Digest Grand Prize Winner Michele Bardsley will share her secrets for winning writing contests and celebrate the publication of her ninth book, "A Mother Scorned and Other Stories," with a two-hour party that includes free food, prize drawings, and family fun. Tampa, FL, June 09, 2005 --(PR.com)-- Local author and Writer’s Digest Grand Prize Winner Michele Bardsley will share her secrets for winning writing contests at the Carrollwood Barnes & Noble Bookstore (11802 North Dale Mabry Highway) on June 18th from 10 a.m. to Noon. After the workshop, she will celebrate the publication of her ninth book, A MOTHER SCORNED AND OTHER STORIES, with a two-hour party that includes free food, prize drawings, and family fun. Party-goers can purchase autographed copies of Bardsley’s novels. The workshop and party are FREE to everyone.
Bardsley’s presentation, “Confessions of a Contest Addict,” is sponsored by the Florida Writers Association. She will discuss the pros and cons of entering writing competitions, reveal how writers can better their chances of winning, and list the best contests.
Bardsley has placed in or won more than 40 contests. Her dark suspense, “A Mother Scorned,” was chosen as the Grand Prize Winner in the 72nd Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition. “A Mother Scorned” was shortlisted for Best Mid-Length Mystery in the 2004 Derringer Awards and it went on to win Best Published Short Story in the 2004 Royal Palm Literary Awards.
A MOTHER SCORNED AND OTHER STORIES is a collection of women’s fiction that inspires both tears and laughter. Several of the stories are award winners, including the novella, “Midnight Intentions,” which won an EPPIE for Best Romantic Suspense. Limited copies will be available for purchase.
The workshop starts at 10 a.m.; the party starts at Noon. Everyone is welcome to attend both events and admission is FREE. Sandwiches and sweets will be available at no charge; drinks can be purchased in the Barnes & Noble Café. Prize drawings will be held every 15 minutes.
