Balfour Beatty Construction Completes Pro-Bono Services Services for Fort Worth Police and Firefighters Memorial
Dallas, TX, June 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Balfour Beatty Construction recently completed pro-bono construction services on the Fort Worth Police and Firefighters Memorial. Located on the north end of Trinity Park along West 7th Street in Fort Worth, the memorial was dedicated on June 5, 2009. The dedication marked the culmination of 15 years of planning and fundraising, honoring Fort Worth’s public servants who have, dating back to the 1800s, lost their lives in the line of duty.
At the dedication ceremony, over 1,000 attendees gathered to remember the three deputy marshals, 55 police officers, and 37 firefighters whose names are inscribed on the wall.
Balfour Beatty donated construction management services for the memorial project and solicited time and material donations from vendors and subcontracting partners throughout the community. The City of Fort Worth donated the five acres of land for the memorial, and more than 800 individuals and companies donated a total of $1.2 million to fund the project.
The memorial includes massive bronze sculptures of a firefighter, police officer, and riderless horse. Adjacent to the sculptures, two high walls list the names of the 95 fallen heroes. Designed by Fort Worth architects Gideon Toal, the memorial features black granite kiosks that tell stories of some of those who lost their lives in service to the city.
Balfour Beatty project manager Stephen Kralik said of the memorial, “I feel very lucky to be a part of this project. It is so important to our city’s history that we provide a place to visit and honor our fallen heroes. It was a privilege and an honor for us to be involved.”
