Lay down on your back with your legs raised over a chair or the cushions of the couch ( hips and knees should be at 90 degrees) for 30-60 minutes 2-3 times per day. This will help to relax the muscles in your spine.
Alternate applying heat for 20 minutes and a cold pack for 10 minutes several times. If pain started today finish with the cold pack.
Take a short walk within tolerance, several times per day. Movement will help loosen your back and too much laying down will make your back stiffer.
Apply Icy hot pain relieving gel.
Try several stretches, such as
Lying on your back with your feet flat on the ground with your knees bent. Then lift your buttocks off the ground so that you are resting on your upper back. Next squeeze your muscles in your stomach and buttocks tightly and hold for 30 seconds, then relax. Repeat procedure several times.
Try getting on your hands and knees and doing a "CAT Back Stretch". This is done by rounding your spine and holding this position for 30 seconds, then relaxing. Repeat procedure several times.
Make sure you drink lots of water. This will help to hydrate the muscles and disc's in the spine.
Make an appointment with your chiropractor or medical doctor if the pain persists for more than 3 days or if the pain gets progressively worse.
Your doctor may want to do x-rays or perform a MRI if radicular symptoms are present , or if you have leg pain.
