Milwaukee Public Schools Partner With Knowledge Unlimited to Bring Current Events to All Students
Educational company Knowledge Unlimited is teaming up with Milwaukee Public Schools to provide current events for kids for the next eight years. This will help in closing the achievement gap in Milwaukee.
Madison, WI, June 17, 2009 --(PR.com)-- One of the big complaints about today’s students is that they have no idea what is going on in the outside world. Soon, however, that criticism will no longer be valid in one of America’s largest — and fastest-changing — school districts.
Milwaukee Public Schools today announced the beginning of an eight-year partnership with Knowledge Unlimited, Inc., an education company based in Madison, Wisconsin. Starting this fall, every public school in Milwaukee will have access to the popular weekly current events programs NewsCurrents and Read to Know.
These educational resources work in different ways, but they both help students to better understand national and international news stories. Read to Know is an online newsmagazine, complete with comprehension quizzes and thought questions after every story. NewsCurrents also provides current events for kids, but does so in a way that encourages lively classroom discussions. This award-winning program is written on three levels for grades 3-12. Both programs work on closing achievement gaps by combining visual and verbal learning with crucial background knowledge.
