Priscilla’s “Wish on a Star” Comes True
A little girl with a life-threatening illness has the wish of her life with Kids Wish Network.
Paris, KY, June 20, 2009 --(PR.com)-- When a child’s wish becomes a reality, it is truly a magical experience. When that wish changes the child’s life for the better, there are simply no words to describe it. This is exactly what happened to little Priscilla after her parents stumbled onto the website of the children’s charity, Kids Wish Network.
After calling the charity to inquire about their services, Priscilla’s mother, Leslie, told Wish Coordinator, Vanessa, about her daughter’s struggles.
You see, Priscilla was born with cystic fibrosis. This is a chronic disease that causes mucus buildup to clog various organs. The condition often leads to life-threatening lung infections and also interferes with food absorption. Little Priscilla must endure daily breathing treatments using a percussion vest and a nebulizer. She must also take daily vitamins to make up for what she loses during food absorption.
Upon hearing that Priscilla’s wish was to meet Cinderella and Mickey Mouse at Disney World in Florida, Vanessa knew just how to make the little girl’s dreams come true. With the help of Wish Funding Specialist, Donna, and some fantastic sponsors, Priscilla’s wish was granted in style with accommodations at the Regal Sun Resort, a dinner adventure at the Pirates Dinner Theater and even tickets to every major theme park she could ever want to visit.
“It was fantastic,” said Leslie of her daughter’s wish trip. “They had balloons and a note from Cinderella and even golden ears waiting for her [Priscilla] when we got to the hotel!”
From their hotel, Priscilla and her family ventured out into the world of Disney for a few days. They visited Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Epcot Center and, of course, Magic Kingdom. In fact, Priscilla had to visit her favorite park, the Magic Kingdom, twice because she loved it so much,
It was there, while going to get Daisy Duck’s autograph for her daughter’s growing autograph collection, that Leslie met a friendly Cast Member, named Tyler. She told him all about Priscilla and how it was her only wish to come to Disney. Later in the day, they met up with Tyler again by chance and he instructed Priscilla and Leslie to follow him.
Tyler walked them through a winding corridor backstage and finally stopped before a curtain. He kneeled down and told “Princess Priscilla” that there were some magic words that she needed to say before she could have a special surprise. With a loud “bibbidi bobbidi boo” from Priscilla, the curtain dropped, revealing her favorite Disney Princess, Cinderella.
“Her reaction was just priceless when the curtain dropped,” said Leslie of Priscilla. “There are really no words to describe it.”
In addition to Priscilla’s Cinderella surprise, Leslie got a surprise of her very own that she noticed on the family’s first full day in Florida.
Because of the cystic fibrosis, Priscilla usually has dark circles under her eyes, coughs a lot and exhibits an almost constant runny nose. When they made it to Florida, the runny nose stopped, Priscilla didn’t cough and the circles under her little girl’s eyes disappeared. Leslie noticed it immediately and watched her every day for a return of her symptoms, all of which failed to show up.
“You all [at Kids Wish Network] fulfilled more than just a dream of going to Disney,” said Leslie. “It was way more than we ever expected.”
Now that they’re home in Kentucky, Leslie and her husband are looking for houses in Florida so that their little princess can live practically without suffering. What they discovered while helping Priscilla enjoy her wish was nothing short of a miracle.
“I am completely overwhelmed and humbled by the generosity of you all [at Kids Wish Network],” said Leslie. “Also for what they did down there not just for our family, but also for everyone else.”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Priscilla’s wish extra special: Traditional Bank, Bluegrass Federal Savings & Loan, Bluegrass Orthodontics, Bourbon Family Dentistry, Compassion Partners, WonderWorks, Pirates Dinner Adventure, The Regal Sun Resort, Chili’s Bar & Grill and Bob Evans Family Restaurant.
