Dallas Famed Designer to Celebrate 70 Cycling 'The Tour'
Dallas, TX, June 20, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Dallas-based Interior Design Hall of Fame interior architect, Andre Staffelbach, will celebrate his 70th birthday while cycling the last week of the Tour de France. Staffelbach has not taken this adventure since 2006 and is looking forward to being a part of one of the most grueling events in sports once again.
"This is a very exciting year because Lance [Armstrong] is back," said Staffelbach founder and creative principal Andre Staffelbach. "There is a genuine camaraderie that surrounds the tour. Cyclists and enthusiasts from all over the world make the pilgrimage to this event."
The Tour de France spans 23 days and 2200 miles. Staffelbach will be a part of a group of cyclists traveling along with Trek and the group’s organizers, Jim and Rhonda Hoyt of Richardson Bike Mart. Their cycling spans the last week of the tour beginning July 21 at Martigny and finishing on July 25th with the trek up Mount Ventoux - one day after Staffelbach’s 70th birthday.
Mont Ventoux is the highest point in Provence at 6,723 feet and has played host to seven tour stage finishes.
"It is truly magnificent," said Staffelbach. "Everyone is there for the same reason. People line the streets and spend their days watching the tour pass. One year I had a flat tire and people asked me - in multiple languages - if I needed help. It is a unifying event and I am excited to get to be a part of it once again.
