Erie Art Museum Celebrates Erie

Erie, PA, August 18, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Take a break from the summer heat and step into the cool museum atmosphere of the Erie Art Museum during Celebrate Erie 2006. To coincide with the downtown festival the Erie Art Museum will offer free admission to all galleries from Friday, August 18 to Sunday, August 20 during regular Museum hours.

Currently on display in the Main Floor Gallery is “Charting a Century of Change: Nineteenth Century French Drawings and Sculpture from the Collection of Herbert and Carol Diamond.”  The turbulent 19th century, which this exhibit spans, was defined in France by political and social change. The dramatic moments including Napoleon's rise and the struggle among the social classes are reflected in the works.

In the Ground Floor Gallery is “Eva Zeisel: The Shape of Life,” a selection of glass, china, metal and wood objects designed by Eva Zeisel. Zeisel’s elegant, biomorphic, colorful and playful designs won her commissions with Sears Roebuck, Hall China, Red Wing China, Federal Glass and many other companies throughout her long career. Audio tours of this exhibit are also available.

The Frame Shop Gallery features “David Hayes: Small Sculptures and Studies,” which complements the “Art Around Erie: Sculpture by David Hayes” public art project.  The Annex Gallery exhibit titled “A Return to Nature” includes bronzes by Carol Cornelison.

The Erie Art Museum is open Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.  For more information on these exhibit visit the Museum website at www.erieartmuseum.org.
