As governments have stepped up their attempts to stem the flow of money and assets into tax havens, the IRS qualified intermediary (QI) program has come under intense scrutiny and undergone changes in the last year. Under the QI program, foreign financial institutions agree to collect information and taxes on behalf of the U.S. government related to interest and dividends paid by U.S. financial institutions into foreign accounts. Foreign financial institutions that do not join the QI program are required to forward documentation about each account holder to U.S. financial institutions.
The Knowledge Congress has assembled a distinguished panel of government officials and bank advisers to discuss changes in the QI program and explain how the government is collecting information about money held in and paid into foreign accounts. About Alan W. Granwell
Alan Granwell has practiced in the area of international taxation for 40 years. He represents US multinational groups and US high-net-worth individuals investing or conducting business abroad, and foreign multinational groups and foreign high-net-worth individuals investing or conducting business in the United States.
